The bulk of this collection was given to the Architectural Archives by the Day family, and it is rich in personal and family materials. The collection comprises student drawings, travel sketches, project-related architectural drawings, correspondence, personal accounts, notes, lectures, books, photographs, memorabilia and materials related to his estate. Day's journals, sketchbooks and unbound sketches document his European travel. Most remarkable is his set of set of eighty-four elaborate sketches executed in 1885 and in 1893-1894. Day and his family preserved small amounts of material related to twenty-three architectural projects 1888-1915. Day's own house and garden are documented with photographs, notes, correspondence, garden diagrams, lists of plants, etc. The only architectural project represented by a large number of architectural drawings is the American Baptist Publication Society (Philadelphia, PA). The most remarkable project-related drawing is a large (79" x 67") presentation rendering of Horticultural Hall, delineated by Edgar V. Seeler. Day preserved substantial materials related to his activities in professional organizations: correspondence, reports, notes of meetings, speeches (including some typescript drafts of his speeches) as well as printed material. The collection contains substantial material related to the American Institute of Architects, the American Academy in Rome and the 7th International Congress of Architects, London, 1906. Filed with Day's professional activities are materials related to two architectural competitions for which Day served as juror. A letterpress book from the years 1913-1917 contains a mixture of professional correspondence and personal business matters arranged chronologically. In addition to the rendering by Edgar V. Seeler, the collection contains renderings by Arthur Byne, and Vernon Howe Bailey of Weightman Hall (University of Pennsylvania. Also found is Anna Day's subscription copy of The Holy Experiment (privately printed in 1922) by the artist Violet Oakley, who had been a close personal friend of Frank Miles Day. Charles Zeller Klauder was born in Philadelphia in 1872. In 1887 he began working for the Philadelphia architect T.P. Chandler, and by 1891 he had won the silver medal of the Philadelphia T-Square Club.
